Maha Shivratri 2020

Saturday, February 22, 2020

Probably the most mysterious and enigmatic of the Hindu deities, Shankar (also known as Mahadev) is the Lord of Destruction, after all, for all new beginnings there must first be an end. Despite living amongst snakes and ghouls in dark caves and high mountains, He is known as Bholenath, the innocent and simple one.

Maha Shivratri is the celebration of the night on which Mahadev married Parvati Devi. It is also on this day that Lord Shiva drank the poison following the churning of the ocean (Samudra Manthan),from which He got the name Neelakantha(one with a blue neck).
